There has been a lot of attention on our high streets lately. With the help of retail expert Mary Portas, the government's attention has been drawn towards the state of our high streets and whether they are actually as important and relevant now as they used to be.
It wasn't very long ago that the only way to buy everything you needed in one place was to make a trip to the city centre where you wold find shops that specialised in a narrow range if products.

So you'd buy records (remember those?!) from a record shop clothes from a clothes shop and food from a grocer's. Only in the bigger cities would you find department stores that were able to present an expanded offering under one roof. And these would invariably be located right in the heart of city centres and were prized for their ability to draw shoppers in from outside the city.
And it seems that having a large range isn't always enough nowadays. Woolworths used to be the place to go for pretty much anything. Picture hooks, pots and pans, children's clothes, confectionery, stationery ...
So, I was wondering how relevant the high street is today. With online shopping, fuel prices and parking all on the up, do you still come into the city centre "just to pick up a few bits"? Or do you need a really compelling reason to make the effort? What would make YOU plan a trip into the city? Or perhaps you work in the centre and value the convenience?
In order to really understand how important it is that the city centre offers a mixture of business, and what more we could be doing at Janson Hong, I would urge you to spend a couple of minutes completing our online survey. It's a few quick qeustions and I hope that more insight into the way you shop will benefit you.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.
